After a 19 year hiatus, Ron Bohmer returns to songwriting with this 2019 collection of 9 new songs. LEGACY examines themes of masculinity, vulnerability, sexual abuse, and prejudice. It explores questions of loss, what we inherit, and what we will leave behind. LEGACY is produced by THE BROTHERS KOREN.
“Between 1997 and 2000 I had written my way through a major upheaval in my life. This collection (all but 2 of them mine, 1 notably by Frank Wildhorn) was recorded live at two late-night solo shows at the West Bank Cafe in NYC. The album was released later that year by 2die4 Music. I’d just completed my run on Broadway as THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. I’d been doing Broadway shows for 10 years of my life and I still felt like I had no idea what I was doing. With the closing of that show, I had no idea what to do next. Creating this album proved to be one of the most important leaps for me. By generous agreement with 2die4, I’m proud to see this album getting “another life”. It’s a captured moment of an uncertain world turning a corner – we were all searching for our place in a new century. I think that’s reflected in these songs.`
A combination of Theatre and original pop music,my 1st album “everyman” was a game-changer for me. It allowed me to see myself as separate from the big musicals I had been a part of. It invited me to take big risks, not just as an interpreter but as a 1st-time writer of my own songs. I fell in love with being in the recording studio, pushing boundaries and risking beyond what I had accepted as limits. I’m also still awed by the orchestrations on this record, done by some of the best arrangers in the business; I still feel lifted up by their bold innovations, it was an honor singing to their new interpretations of the classic Theatre songs included here.
